About
AFC
Adult Foster Care (AFC) is a MassHealth program that provides care and support for members who need daily assistance with personal care tasks due to medical, physical, cognitive or mental health conditions.
The program allows members to receive care in a private home from caregivers. Services include assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, meal preparation, and coordination with healthcare providers. AFC focuses on maintaining independence while ensuring safety and quality of life.
Eligibility
Adult Foster Care (AFC) in Massachusetts helps people aged 16 and older who can no longer live alone due to medical, physical, cognitive or mental health needs. Applicants must be state residents and meet financial requirements through MassHealth. The program supports living safely at home with personalized daily care.
Member Requirements:
To qualify as an AFC member, you need help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or moving around. Members must live with their caregiver in a private home.
Caregiver Requirements and Payment:
Caregivers, often family or friends, must be 18 or older and live with the member. They provide daily assistance but don’t need medical licenses. Caregivers are paid a tax-free stipend based on the care level, up to $1,600 a month.
